What are three suggestions in this article for beginning your career in the industry?  How can an internship help? Three ways of beginning your career in the industry is starting off as an independent filmmaker, working as a production assistant, and having and internship. An internship can help, because by working with the studio, you receive real-world experience and training.

11/29/2017 | HOW A TV SHOW GETS MADE

What are three ways that television production is different thank feature film production?  What did you find interesting about this process? Television production is fast paced. Scenes are assigned a location, time of day, and actors, which is called a white schedule. A television season is much longer than a feature film. What I found interesting is that there are many different cuts of an episode, an editors cut, directors cut, producers cut, and lastly, the networks cut. Also, some episodes are worked on just hours before it airs.

How do you think most of the media in the world being owned by just six companies affect our world?  What are the pro's and cons of so few owning so much? Media that is currently owned buy only six companies affects our world, because those companies, such as Comcast and The Walt Disney Company, will just continue to grow and grow, and will/already has taken down many independent companies. And if there ever comes a time when a company begins to rise, one of the big six will "make them an offer they can't refuse." One pro is that the media will be more organized, and they'll be easier to follow. A con is that they'll continue to grow without giving other smaller companies a chance.

How is an EPK Director/Producer's role different from a traditional film director or producer?  What are some of their responsibilities on a production? EPK Directors and Producer's roles are different from the traditional director and producer because they find their positions wherever they can. You have to have experience on a film set, experience in editing, have good computer skills, and understand the production process.

Why are lighting technicians so important?  What are some of their responsibilities on a film? Lighting technicians are so important because they supervise the lighting equipment on set and location, as well as set it up, and help with power supply. The main role of the lighting technician is to keep the equipment clean and in good working order, as well as setting up lighting equipment. They work on the instructions of the Gaffer and the Best Boy, who co-ordinate their work.

Why is the 1st Assistant Director so important?  What are some of their responsibilities on a film? A 1st Assistant Director is important because they're assisting the director, co-ordinating all production activity, and supervising the cast and crew. Their main responsibility is to keep filming on schedule by driving it forward, making announcements and giving directions to co-ordinate the cast and crew.

Why is the Production Sound Mixer so important?  What are some of their responsibilities on a film? The Production Sound Mixer is the person responsible for making sure that the dialogue recorded for the film is clear. They also work with the Boom Operator. The responsibilities for the Production Sound Mixer on a film include having knowledge of electronics and all sound recording equipment. They have to understand microphones, lighting techniques and camera lens angles. They must have an interest in acoustics and audio technology. They meet with the director and producer two weeks before filming to discuss the placement of microphones on or around actors.

Why is the Production Designer role so important?  What are some of their responsibilities on a film? The role of Production Designer is so important because they're working with the Director and Producer to produce a budget and schedule. They're also directing the team responsible for producing the visual elements, sets, and costumes. The Production Designer has responsibilities, including helping the directors to define and achieve the look and feel of the film, deliver design sketches, as well as calculate the budget, deciding how the money and effort will be spent.

Why is the director of photography role so important in a film?  What are some of their responsibilities on a film? The director of photography is an important, because they create the visual look of the entire film, by working with the director, the camera crew, and the lighting department. The director of photography is responsible for having full knowledge about camera equipment, experience in the industry, being flexible, making quick decisions, be creative with an artistic vision, and having excellent communication skills.

What are 3 key pieces of advice this presenter gives about the chain of command?  Why is it so important? Chatter should be kept to a minimum, especially when filming begins. The chain of command should be well known. You need to make sure that other departments are under control. People need to be alert, pay attention to the key details, and everyone needs to be working together.

Why is the directors role so important in a film?  What are some of their responsibilities on a film? The director's role is so important because they're creatively responsible for bringing the film to life. They have a vision, and they have to make that a reality. They are are also responsible for casting, shots, compositions, and editing. Directors need to have a deep passion for filmmaking, and be committed.

What department on set interests you?  If you had to choose a job in filmmaking, what would it be?  Why? The two departments that interests me are the Key Creative Team, and the Post Production department. specifically the director and the screenwriter position, as well as the film editor. If I had to choose one job, I would have to choose the screenwriter position, because I love creating stories and bringing them to the big screen.

Why is the producers role so important in a film?  What are some of their responsibilities on the movie crew? The Producers role is so important in a film, because they're pretty much in charge of making sure that the film actually comes together. They're responsible for turning story ideas into profitable films, and bringing together a creative and talented cast and crew. They guide the films production from the very beginning to the end. Basically, they bring the cast and crew together, and make sure that the films happens, with a studio, budget, and locations.

Why are there so many different jobs on a movie crew?  What is one job that you learned about in this video that you'd never heard of.  Why might it seem interesting? There are so many different jobs on a movie crew because a film requires numerous equipment setup, which requires people, because equipment isn't going to set itself up. One of the jobs that I've never heard of is a gaffer. I guess it seems interesting because they work with lighting.

11/06/2017 | BEFORE ACTION!

In your own words, write a paragraph on what needs to be called on set before what and explain why it is so important.  Refer to the Production Process slides if needed. Things that need to be called on set are things such as, "Picture's up," "Rolling sound," "Sound speeds," "Camera speeds," and the take and mark. These are all needed before saying action, to let each department know what is happening at each moment. Each department needs to be on the same page, the actors need to settle in, and everyone needs to be ready, so that there's no interruptions.

What is the main difference between a shot vs. a set up?   What is the most important thing to keep in mind when you're going to shoot a scene? The main difference between a shot and a set up is that a shot is one video clip with framing and an camera angle. A set up is the camera placement, lighting, set dressing , and actors for one or more shots. When shooting a scene, it's important to keep in mind of how many scenes you can shoot with one set up.

11/02/2017 | PRE-PRODUCTION WRAPUP

What surprised you in the pre-production presentation?  What are two questions you still have about preproduction?  What is one thing you learned from the presentation?  Why is it important? Honestly, there wasn't anything that surprised me about pre-production, because I knew about everything that was shown in the presentation. Because of this, I have no questions about pre-production. The only I really learned was the term log line. This is important because it summarizes the entire story of a film in one sentence.

What is a shot list?  Why is it so important? A shot list is basically a "groccery list" of framing, angles, and movement for each shot in a film. This is very important to do and have before you ever step foot on a film set, because it prepares you for you vision of the film, people will understand what you want specifically for each shot, and will save you a lot of time on set.
