INTRO TO THE PSA | 1/10/18

How is a public service announcement different from a commercial?  Why are they not seen as often compared to in the past?

Public Service Announcements are not paid advertising, while Commercials however, are. They're typically aired after midnight and before 6AM, or are aired to fill in remaining commercial time. You don't see them as often anymore because they aren't forced for broadcast, and also, instead of airing a Public Service Announcement, a promotion for the TV station is aired instead (self-promotion).
