LETTER TO YOURSELF | 5/25/18

Look back at your experience over the last two years here at Film/Video Production.  Reflect on what you've learned, accomplished, the friends you've made and compose a letter to yourself on the first day of class in the beginning class.  Imagine that this letter couple be delivered to yourself on that day and he/she could read it. What advice would you give your past self? Would you tell them they are going to have a great experience? What would you warn them about? Try to wright a thoughtful reflection to yourself on this last day of class. You will be submitting it as credit to Jupiter. Hello Robert Rubio from August 14, 2017. On that day, you started class here at the Silicon Valley Career Technical Education. That's a mouthful, so we abbreviate it to to SVCTE. Anyways, I'm writing this to you to give you some advice about things I learned and experienced throughout the entire school year.  First off, I want to tell you, congrats on completing the course. Severa...

THE MOST VALUABLE EXPERIENCE | 5/24/18

If you had to pick three things that you found the most valuable from this class experience, what would they be?  What do you feel overall that this course has helped you prepare for? One of the three things that I found most valuable in this class was the hands-on experience with the cameras, especially the Sony FS-5's, which I loved using. The second most valuable was meeting everyone that was in the class, because I've gotten along with everyone, and they can be potential connections in the future.  The third and last most valuable thing from this class experience was having a passionate instructor who cared about his teaching, and did his best to teach us everything he can with the limited time that we had.

BEST UNIT | 5/23/18

What unit did you enjoy the most?  Why?  What are three things that you learned from the unit?  What are two things that you'd like to know more about?  How could this unit be improved?  Please give detailed input.  The unit that I enjoyed the most from this class has to be the Principals of Compositions. This was my favorite because we talked about all of my favorite lists of shots, including establishing shots, medium shots, medium close up shots, and close up shots. As well as angles. And I really care a lot about those two things in movies and tv shows, and it was great to see everyone in the class learn about them.

END OF SEMESTER GOALS | 5/22/18

Look back at your goals for the Fall and Spring Semester blog posts.  Were you able to achieve your goals?  Why or why not?  What could you have done differently?  Looking back at them, what could you have done to focus more on your goals in the course? Looking back at my goals, I was able to achieve one of them. I'm ending the year with a good grade and a good reputation. There was one other goal that I set for myself that I haven't achieved yet, but I'm still working on it. That one goal was to create an amazing short film. The reason why I haven't been able to achieve it yet is because I don't have the time and resources to do so. I have to dedicate all of my time on it with filming, but I can't because of school. That's why I'm going to spend the entire summer working on it.

DOCUMENTARY REFLECTION | 5/21/18

Now that you are finished with your documentary, reflect on what you have learned.  Answer the following questions in a well thought out paragraph. 1.  What have you learned in the documentary assignment?  List three different things that you have learned and what you learned. I didn't really learn anything new from this project. The same obstacles that we encountered were the same as from past assignments. 2.  What has this assignment taught you about video production? This project didn't teach me anything new. We could've done better if we had more time, considering the fact that we were assigned this project with insufficient amount of time. 3.  Was this assignment a good final project of the year?  Why or why not?  What did it teach you to improve you production skills? I'd say that this was a good project to end the year, but it would've been better if we were given more time to complete it. 4.  What mistakes did you make on the project? ...

B-ROLL IS YOUR A-ROLL | 5/18/18

What is Anthony's take on B-roll?  How is it different from others?  What is his secret tip for "bedroom B-roll?" Anthonys take on B-Roll is that it is being undervalued and depicted as a lower priority. The reason he says that is because it should also be known as A-Roll. It should be known as A-Roll, as it is the ACTION of the story. It shows the "character" revealing him/herself. Without it, you just have a Medium close up shot of people talking, which can eventually become boring. A-Roll is only telling the story, but B-Roll is actually SHOWING the story. Together, they both "complete the picture."
